Accessible Stops Along the Kancamagus Highway
The Kancamagus Highway, the "Kanc", is one of the most scenic drives in New England, a mountain byway winding through the White Mountain National Forest with overlooks, rivers and forest at every turn. It is also one of the most accessible ways to experience the mountains, because so much of the beauty is right from the road and the pull-offs. With a little planning and the right rental, a loved one with limited mobility can get out and enjoy the views, not just pass them by.
Oceans Mobility delivers to Lincoln, Conway and the White Mountains.
Enjoying the overlooks
The Kanc has a series of scenic overlooks and pull-offs, many with paved or firm areas where you can get out and take in the view. A travel mobility scooter that folds into the car is ideal for hopping out at each stop, and a transport wheelchair is easy to push to a viewpoint. Some stops, like certain river and falls areas, have firmer accessible paths, while others involve rougher trails, so plan around the surfaces, and we are glad to help.
Make it a relaxed drive
The joy of the Kanc is the unhurried pace. Build in rests with a rollator with a seat, bring layers and water, and pair it with nearby Franconia Notch for a full day of accessible mountain scenery. Note the highway has no gas or services along the way, so fuel up first.
