Burlington, VT Waterfront and Lake Champlain: An Accessible Visit

Ask anyone who has spent a summer evening in Burlington and they will tell you the best seat in the city is by the lake. The Burlington waterfront has flat, paved paths, parks with benches, boats coming in and some of the best sunsets in New England over the Adirondacks. It is also one of the easiest parts of Vermont to enjoy with limited mobility.

The Island Line Trail and Waterfront Park

The Island Line Trail runs along the shore and is paved and mostly level through the downtown waterfront. Waterfront Park has wide walkways and a long boardwalk with swings facing the water. On a mobility scooter you can cover far more of it than on foot, and a spare battery makes a long out-and-back stress free.

Picking the right rental

For the waterfront alone, almost anything works: a travel scooter, a transport chair or a rollator. If you plan to go up to Church Street the same day, choose a stronger scooter, because the climb back up from the lake is steep. Our travel vs full-size scooter guide explains the difference.
